How to Create a Design

Every design lives within a project, so the first step is to create one. Here's a short how-to guide to get you started!
How to Create a Design

Starting with a project

Every design lives within a project, so the first step is to create one. The good news is that you can save multiple designs to a single project, which is useful when you're exploring different options for the same site.

Once your project is set up, head to your new project page and click Create a design to get started.

Adding your design details

Start off your new design by filling in the basics: a design name, the electrical supply at the property, and the type of storage (if any) you'd like to include.

Working with the roof

Next, select the rooftops you'd like to work on. A selected roof is marked with a green pin, and the details for whichever roof you're working on appear in the panel on the right. You can adjust those details manually if anything needs tweaking.

Choosing a mounting type

You'll then move on to selecting a mounting type. To save you time, we've already filtered the list to show only the options compatible with the roof surfaces you've selected.

Selecting your panels

Now it's time to pick your panels. Use the filters to narrow things down quickly — and just like mounting, the options shown have already been filtered based on the mounting type you selected.

Laying out your array

Use the on-screen controls to drag, expand, and rotate your panel array. You can add multiple arrays on a single roof and even mix orientations on the same roof area if your design calls for it.

If you'd rather work in a more structured view, you can switch to 2D view to design your array.

Building your mounting kit

Next up is the mounting kit for each array. Start by choosing a rail type.

Once you've picked a rail, you'll be offered the appropriate roof anchors based on the roof type and rail group selected.

After you've chosen a roof anchor, we'll compare the quantity in your design to the amount needed to withstand the calculated wind loading on the roof, and flag if you need more anchors. That way, you can be confident your design is structurally sound.

Choosing your inverter

Time to select your inverter. The options shown are all compatible with the arrays in your design, and you can use the filters to narrow things down further.

Inverter electricals

Based on the inverter you've selected, we'll automatically add the relevant inverter electricals to your design. You can review these and remove anything you don't need.

Adding storage

If you choose to include storage when setting up your design, you'll now be offered a range of batteries that are compatible with your selected inverter.

Reviewing your design

Finally, take a look at the summary to review everything in one place. From here, you can create a quote directly from your design, ready to take through to the next stage.
